Sustainable Energy
Fast-Growing Wind Energy Technology
According to the Union of Concerned Scientists in 2009, wind energy is the fastest growing source of electricity in the world. Between 1998 and 1999, over a billion dollars worth of wind power equipment was installed in the US, and over $2.5 billion worldwide. Never the less, wind is a relatively small factor in our electricity supply.
Wind power is often the least expensive form of renewable power — in fact, in some cases it is the cheapest form of any kind of power. The fact that wind energy produces no emissions of any kind and no dangerous waste makes wind power a viable choice for sustainable power generation for the 21st century.
Wind energy is a major component of our plan to eliminate the use of fossil fuels in the Midwest. Wind is generally the most economical source of all the renewable energy sources, and is already competitive with and sometimes cheaper than electricity from fossil fuels and nuclear power.
Good wind locations can produce wind power at eight to ten cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) – even less when the federal tax credit is factored in. Wind power is expected to become even more cost-effective as the industry develops larger turbines and the price of fossil fuels continues to rise, as it surely will in the long-term.
Jobs
Michigan's clean energy industries are a bright spot in the economy (job growth of 10.7%) even while the state has major employment concerns in other sectors. A $150 billion clean energy investment across the country would bring 54,000 jobs and about a $4.8 billion investment to the state, potentially reducing unemployment by 1.1 percent.
Split Power is committed to providing customers with ongoing educational information about sustainable energy sources. We welcome any questions that you might have concerning wind energy and how this amazing technology can best benefit you in lowering your annual energy costs.
